The Board's Role

  • Insuring the availability of adequate financial resources

  • Approving annual budgets and strategic planning

  • Accounting for the ethics, compliance, and performance of the organization

Board of Directors

Laurie Wolkow, Chair

Safeway, Inc.; IT Optimization, Planning & Strategy

It was important to me that I connect with an agency that provides real value, uses its budget wisely, and cares deeply about the causes it serves.  STAND! fits that profile, so I wanted to be a part of it.

If the small contribution I make as a Board Member helps one woman find shelter when she needs it, or prevents one parent from acting on the impulse of child abuse, then maybe I’ve done something worthwhile.

Cheryl O'Connor

HomeAid Northern California, Executive Director

I got a call from the Development Director at STAND! a couple of years ago to see how HomeAid might be able to help with work at the shelter. After learning more about the organization and working on the shelter remodel, I knew I wanted to help and get more involved with being the catalyst to break the cycle of family violence. I am proud to serve on the STAND! Board and will do everything in my power to help spread the word and end family violence.

David Dolder, Secretary

I have been involved with STAND! for more than 30 years. From serving on the Board, to being a volunteer leading parenting classes, to teaching middle schoolers about building healthy relationships, I see that family by family and person by person, we can end family violence. It is truly moving to see eyes light up when moms and dads share how the new parenting advice has changed their home life, and to hear heartfelt thanks for critical assistance from relatives who are raising children affected by violence. Witnessing and being part of the real change happening in the lives of men, women, and children fuels my dedication to this organization.

Nadia Costa, Assistant Secretary

Miller Starr Regalia, Land Use Entitlement Attorney

Tim Truesdale, Treasurer

Community Resource Associates, Inc.; President and CEO

I have worked in the non-profit affordable housing industry for over 30 years and know first hand how difficult it is to raise funds to support our various missions.  This has given me the desire to help other agencies achieve their goals which in turn helps improve the quality of life of citizens in our communties.

Working with the resident managers of our housing developments provided me with real life data on how domestic violence affects every person in the household, especially the children.

Bill Brown

BPO Systems; Director, Staff & HR Services

Gary Snyder

I support STAND! because I believe that strong families are vital for helping children achieve their full potential. I was fortunate to have two sons who now each have three children. I know not all families have the support and help I had in raising my sons and want to do all I can in our community to assist others who are raising children, which is the most important yet hardest job we have.

Linda Best

Contra Costa Council, President & CEO

I joined the Board because my family has been affected by domestic violence, and I strongly support STAND!’s mission to prevent it and to assist victims. I believe it is our obligation to improve our communities for our children and grandchildren.
