Welcome to NEWSSTAND!, a blog dedicated to building awareness, celebrating successes and creating a discussion around family violence in our community. We’ll also be sharing STAND! news and getting to know the staff, volunteers and collaborators whose work saves lives, changes the future and rebuilds families.
This month, we’re recognizing awareness-building campaigns that intersect with family violence. January is:
National Stalking Awareness Month
Get the facts: Stalking, which affects 7.5 million Americans each year, is a common form of intimate partner violence and can lead to death. Find out how much you really know about stalking by taking the quiz at stalkingawarenessmonth.org.
Know your options: If you are being stalked by an intimate partner, develop a Stalking Safety Plan and consider attending one of STAND!’s free domestic violence restraining order clinics. Call 1-888-215-5555 for appointment.

Human Trafficking Awareness Month
Get the facts: According to Exploit No More, human trafficking is the second largest organized crime in the world. In the US alone, 100,000-300,000 children are exploited each year.
Know your options: Locally, Community Violence Solutions’ Rape Crisis Center is in collaboration with a county-wide Anti Trafficking Project. Human trafficking victims can call their 24-Hour Confidential Crisis Line, 1-800-670-7273, and dial 211 for support.
