We STAND! in solidarity with the greater LA area, the Twin Cities, and all communities facing horrific acts of violence, force, unlawful detention, and occupation at the hands of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officers. We condemn the killings of Alex Pretti, Renee Good, and Keith Porter, and in custody deaths of Geraldo Lunas Campos, Victor Mauel Diaz, Parady La, Heber Sanchez Dominguez, Luis Beltran Yanez-Cruz, and Luis Gustavo Nunez Caceres. We say their names, and STAND! with the countless others harmed by wrongful detainment, exercising their rights for peaceful protest, or simply being swept up in the chaos of unchecked aggression. These acts are part of a long pattern targeting immigrant and communities of color, and while not surprising, they are sickening in scope.
STAND!’s mission is to to end domestic violence, but we know that large-scale sweeping, indiscriminate immigration enforcement action does not create safer communities for Survivors and their children. When it is not safe to leave the house, send children to school, or attend a place of worship, Survivors will often delay or forego seeking help for domestic violence. We call upon our leaders in Congress to act with utmost urgency.
